A minibus for the elderly

A minibus for the elderly, which was bought with funds from an Aberdeen charity dinner, was unveiled in May.

Around £19,000 was raised at the Magic Memories dinner in March at which magician Paul Daniels and former Scotland footballer Tommy Docherty entertained guests. Donations and funding from the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust was also received.

The bus will be managed by VSA and used by Grandholm Care Home at the Bridge of Don as well as other groups supporting older people in the community. The dinner was organised by Charles Bain, Director of Aberdeen-based company C Euro Communications Ltd, whose father has Alzheimers and is a resident at Grandholm Care Home.

Mr Bain said, “We are thrilled to have raised so much money for this bus, which will put smiles on the faces of elderly people and those with Alzheimers, like my dad, or other degenerative mental illnesses, by getting them out and about and giving them a change of scenery.”

VSA’s Director of Older People’s Services, Marjory Moran, said, “We would like to thank both the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust and particularly Charles Bain for the hard work that went into the event. The new vehicle will allow our service users to enjoy some great days out in the summer months, which might not otherwise be possible.”
